Shaquille got his GED!

When Shaquille Reed passed his final GED test last week, it was a long time coming. Like many young people at Kentucky Youth Career Center, he wanted to get his diploma as soon as possible, but there were always obstacles that seemed more urgent. His career planner, Virginia Dever, said “I knew he was very smart and I knew he could do it.” She would call and text him when she hadn’t seen him at KYCC in a while, to let Shaquille know that she believed in him and that he was always welcome to come back. Once he passed 3 of the subjects, Shaquille said, “I only had 1 left, so I had to get it done and complete the next step.” When he passed, Virginia said that everyone cheered and rang the cowbell to celebrate Shaquille’s diploma. He wants to enroll in college and play basketball next and says that KYCC is “a good place where everybody cares.” Congrats, Shaquille! Your perseverance paid off.
